About Southtowne Saints

The Southtowne Saints is a Eugene-based quartet of professional musicians playing an eclectic mixture of American and European music, both vocal and instrumentals. They bring a depth of experience and skillful arrangements to pop and rock tunes, jazz standards, Latin, Bossa Nova, and Gypsy Jazz.

Southtowne Saints has performed at the Friendly Street Food Court, Drop Bear Brewery, Territorial Winery tasting room, Gratitude Brewery, The Jazz Station among others. They are an excellent choice for any event or club setting, have a good following with an email list and are well received wherever they perform.

The Saints members are well known in the Eugene community, with each performing separately and at times together in a number of well known bands. They were all members of Blue Moon, a Western Swing band that played the Eugene Celebration and other venues; Michael and Tony are in Bossanaire and Bossa Blues; Michael and Brian performed together in Spirit Farm, and in Hot Club Eugene.

Tony Proveaux provides vocals and plays bass, Michael Anderson sings and provides rhythm and lead guitar, Brian Price plays the violin and keyboard, and Jim Reinking is on drums. 

Songs in their repertoire include Riders on the Storm, Light My Fire (The Doors), Minor Swing, Nuages (Django Reinhardt, Black Magic Woman (Santana), Sitting by the Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding), Michael Franks (Popsicle Toes), Copperline, How Sweet It Is (James Taylor) to name but a few.

Michael has been on the music scene in various guises since he moved to Eugene in 1976. He’s traveled internationally backing artists as well as playing stylistically diverse music including Gypsy Swing, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Folk, Bossa Nova, and Rhythm and Blues.

He's worked with the great drummer Donny Osbourne of Mel Torme & Paul Cotton (Poco), as well as numerous video and radio productions. He has been a studio session musician on numerous albums by local artists. His experience shows with soulful singing and jazz-influenced guitar.

In addition to the Saints he is a member of Bossanaire, a Brazil 66-style band; police tribute band Outlandishd'amour, Riffle and various other bands in the area.

Anthony Proveaux

Bass, Vocals

Anthony (bass, vocals) is a long standing member of the Eugene music community, as a performer, producer and audio engineer. Anthony sings, plays bass and guitar, and is currently a member of “Southtowne Saints” and “Bossanaire.” He’s also performed with numerous bands in the past, and has appeared at notable venues such as the Hult Center, the Shedd, the Jazz Station, the Newport Performing Arts Center and many other small performance venues.

Brian (violin, keyboard) is a classically trained violinist, pianist and guitarist, and was a professional musician in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years before moving to Eugene in 1987. In the Bay Area Brian was a sought after studio session player and recorded and/or performed with a number of well known artists at the time including Jerry Garcia, Old and in the Way, the Grateful Dead, David Grisman, Janis Ian, Hot Tuna , John Shine among others.

After moving to Eugene in the late 80s Brian continued performing and recording with a number of local groups which included Dopplegang, Spirit Farm, Blue Moon, LaZoo, Hot Club Eugene, Babes and Boyz, Emerald Valley Jazz Kings and Mason Williams. Locally, Brian has performed at the Jazz Station, Hult Center, Florence Performing Arts Center, International Django Fest on Whidby Island and numerous clubs and venues in Lane County.

As violinist and keyboardist for the Southtowne Saints, Brian brings a playful and eclectic improvisation style. His specialty is playing Django Reinhardt music in the style of Stefan Grappeli – a master gypsy jazz violinist from the 20th century, but also is well versed in Pop, Jazz, Rock, Country, Bluegrass and Latin music.

Jim Reinking

Drums

Jim Reinking is a long time professional drummer in the Eugene area. He has played and recorded with many bands including Riffle, Western Exposure, Blue Moon and is known for his solid and dynamic style, his ability to play many kinds of music, and quickly adapt styles in new situations. He provides a very solid rhythm for any ensemble he is part of.

Jim has also taught music at Marist high school for many years.
